Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of segmental tourniquet banding in forearm venipuncture in elderly patients with gastroin-testinal bleeding and severe anemia. Methods A total of 105 elderly patients with severe anemia in gastrointestinal bleeding from March 2020 to March 2022 in a class A tertiary hospital were selected and randomly divided into three groups with 35 in each group.Group A under-went venipuncture with a conventional single tourniquet, while the banding in Group B was divided into segments above the puncture point with two tourniquets bundled. In Group C,two tourniquets were tied above and below the puncture point separately. The inner diameter of blood vessels in resting state under ultrasound and after banding, the success rate of venipuncture and the degree of pain in patients were compared among those three groups. Results The inner diameter of the blood vessel in Group A was lower than Group B and C.The success rate of ven-ipuncture was 88.57%in Group B and 94.29%in Group C,which were higher than 74.29%in Group A.And the pain degree score result was Group B>Group C>Group A.All those differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The use of upper and lower segmented tourniquet bundling can improve the success rate of venipuncture without increasing the pain of patients, which can be promoted and verified by administrators.
