A correlation study of dementia fear,dementia knowledge and depression in elderly people in community

Abstract：Objective To explore the relationship between the dementia fear and dementia knowledge,depression of the elderly in the community,and analyze the influencing factors of the dementia fear in the elderly.Methods A total of 384 elderly people in community were investigated with self-designed general information questionnaire,Fear of Dementia Scale(FODS),Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale(DKAS)and Rasch-Derived Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D-R).Results The total score of 384 elderly peo-ple on FODS,DKAS and CES-D-R were(57.96±12.74),(26.84±5.72),3.00(2.00,6.00),respectively.The total score of FODS was obvi-ously correlated with DKAS(r=0.680,P＜0.01)and CES-D-R(r=0.609,P＜0.01).The main influencing factors included age,family histo-ry of dementia,dementia knowledge and depression.Conclusion The dementia fear of the elderly in the community is at a medium high lev-el.Community medical workers should carry out targeted personalized care for different elderly people to keep their dementia worry within a reasonable range,so as to achieve the goal of healthy aging.
