Research on the current status of paradoxical leadership among the head nurse and its influence on nurses'innovative behav-ior

Abstract：Objective To investigate the status of paradoxical leadership of head nurses and nurses'innovative behavior,and assess the impact of the former on the latter.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 453 clinical nurses from a grade A tertiary hospital using the General Data Questionnaire,Nurse Innovative Behavior Scale(NIBS)and Paradoxical Leadership Behavior Scale(PLBS).Results The mean total scores of nurses on NIBS and PLBS were(32.43±5.86)and(62.89±13.88),respectively.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that professional title and paradoxical leadership behavior were influencing factors of nurses'innovative behavior(P＜0.01).Conclusion Both innovative behavior of clinical nurses and paradoxical leadership behavior of head nurses are at the medium level.Hospital managers should take measures to improve paradoxical leadership of head nurses to improve innovative behavior of nurses.
