The relationship among spiritual care ability,ethical sensitivity and empathy ability of hospice nurses

Abstract：Objective To investigate the current status of spiritual care ability,ethical sensitivity and empathy ability of hospice nur-ses,and analyze the effects of ethical sensitivity and empathy ability on spiritual care ability of nurses.Methods A total of 230 hospice nur-ses were investigated with general information questionnaire,Spiritual Care Competence Scale,Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire and the Chinese version Jefferson Scale of Empathy.Results The scores of spiritual care ability,ethical sensitivity and empathy ability of 230 hospice nurses were(70.59±13.35),(35.78±6.34)and(105.06士14.95)respectively,and there was a positively correlation betwen the three in pairs.Mul-tiple linear regression analysis showed that spiritual education,ethical sensitivity and empathy ability were the main influencing factors of hos-pice nurses'spiritual care ability(P＜0.01),explaining 88.2％of the total variation.Conclusion The spiritual care ability of hospice nurses is closely related to ethical sensitivity and empathy ability.Increasing spiritual education and improving the ethical sensitivity and empathy a-bility of nurses can improve nurses'spiritual care ability to a certain extent,so as to improve the quality of hospice care.
