Application of FOCUS-PDCA in preoperative preparation quality of patients undergoing elective surgery in otology wards

Abstract：Objective To explore the application effect of FOCUS-PDCA in the preoperative preparation of patients undergoing elective surgery in otorhinolaryngology wards.Methods Totally, 431 elective surgery patients were selected as the control group and received routine preoperative preparations.And 452 elective surgery patients were selected as the experimental group and received preoperative preparation based on FOCUS-PDCA model.Through "Find" "Organize" "Clarify" "Understand" and "Select" 5 steps, the problems of preoperative preparation were focused.Through "Plan" "Do" "Check" and "Act" 4 steps, the dificiencies of preoperative preparation were improved continously.Results After application of FOCUS-PDCA, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups on preoperative preparation defect rate, operation delay rate and patient satisfaction (P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusion Application of FOCUS-PDCA in patients' preoperative preparation achieves nursing services standardization and improves the satisfaction of hospitalization experience, ensures the smooth implementation of surgery, so as to provide a continuous perioperative nursing quality management.
