The real experience in primary caregivers of stroke patients in China: a Meta-synthesis of qualitative studies

Abstract:Objective To conduct a systematic review on the real experience in primary caregivers of stroke patients and provide evidence-based guidance for delivery of care in hospital and community settings.Methods PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier-SDOL, CNKI, Wanfang data, CQVIP databases were included to retrieve literatures on real experience in primary caregivers of stroke patients.Results Twelve qualitative studies were sequently integrated into seven categories and finally three integrative results were summarized from the seven categories, the caregivers were over burdened, the caregivers expected multiple support, and the caregivers were constantly adjusting themselves.Conclusion Burden and need in primary caregivers of stroke patients should be paid attention by primary health staff.Help and guidance need to be taken to strengthen their care ability, and reduce burden of primary caregivers.
