Status of cognitive level for needle stick injury prevention among 2 714 clinical nurses

Abstract：Objective To understand the status of the knowledge for needle stick injury among nurses and provide basis for protective education.Methods A total of 2 714 nursing staff of 23 medical institutions in Zhejiang Province were investigated by using the method of convenience cluster sampling.Results Among the 2 714 respondents,2 321 (85.52％) had experienced needle puncture.The high incidence rate was among nursing staff of 20 ～ 35 years old,bachelor degree,1 ～ 10 years of working years,nurse professional title,medical nurse,married,public hospital and 2A-level hospital.The score of prevention knowledge of needle stick injury was (17.35-±2.11),and the correct proportion was 78.81％.The results of multi-factor analysis showed that the main influencing factors of knowledge score were degree of education,length of work,nature of the hospital and the training of needle stick injury prevention in the past year.Conclusion Nursing staff shoull strengthen the training of needle-stabbing knowledge,improve the cognition level and reduce the incidence of needlestick injury.
