Correlation between psychological capital and core competency of oral specialist nurses

Abstract：Objective To investigate the status quo of oral specialist nurses' psychological capital and core competency,and to explore the relationship between them.Methods Totally,181 nurses from seven hospitals in Hefei city of Anhui Province were selected and investi-gated by Psychological Capital Questionnaire and oral specialist nurses core competency questionnaire.Results The average score of oral specialist nurses' psychological capital and core competency were (4.75±0.48)and (2.67±0.55)respectively.There was a significantly posi-tive correlation between psychological capital and core competency (P<0.01).Age,self-efficacy,hope and resilience could positively predict the nurses' core competency(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusion The psychological capital of oral specialist nurses is over the moderate level, and core competency of oral specialist nurses is in a moderate level.Nursing administrators should give more credit on nurses' psychological capital,thus to improve the nurses' self-efficacy,set the reasonable goal,strenthen the resilience to overcome the difficulties,and improve the oral specialist nurses' core competency.
