The correlation between self - efficacy for oral care and oral health - related quality of life among patients with chronic periodontitis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the correlation between self - efficacy for oral care and oral health - related quality of life(OHRQOL)among patients with chronic periodontitis . Methods Totally,120 patients with chronic periodontitis were investigated with self - efficacy scale for oral care and the Oral Health Impact (OHIP - 14). The correlation between self - efficacy for oral care and oral health related quality of life were analyzed. Results The mean score of SESS was (46. 10 ± 8. 67),the mean score of OHIP - 14 was (18. 90 ± 7. 62). OHIP - 14 was significantly negative correlated with self - efficacy for oral care,the di-mension of dentist consultation and brushing teeth(P < 0. 01 or P < 0. 05). Conclusion Self - efficacy for oral care of patients with chronic periodontitis is low, oral health - related quality of life is bad. Clinicians can enhance the patients'whole self - efficacy for oral care to improve the Oral health - related quality of life for patients with chronic periodontitis.
