Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between stigma, stoma - adjustment, and quality of life in colorectal cancer patients with permanent sto-ma. Methods A total of 79 colostomy patients with permanent stoma were recruited and investigated with the general information questionnaire, social impact scale (SIS),the Ostomy Adjustment Scale (OAS)and the scale of quality of life (EORTC QLQ - C30)in 3 months after discharge. Results The total score of SIS was (55. 20 ± 10. 42);the total score of OAS was (129. 01 ± 20. 10),and the score of EORTC QLQ - C30 was (61. 01 ± 20. 69). The stigma was negatively correlated with the stoma - adjustment and the quality of life (P < 0. 01 or P < 0. 05). Conclusion The stigma can affect the stoma - adjustment and the quality of life in colorectal cancer patients with permanent stoma, appropriate interventions should be taken to decrease and remove the stigma in patients.
