The Career -related social support scale for nursing undergraduates:Development,reliability and validity test

Abstract：Objective To develop a scale for measuring career - related social support for nursing undergraduates. Methods The first draft of the career- related social support scale was formed based on literature review and Delphi consultation and its reliability,and validity were tested in 428 nursing undergradu-ates of three nursing school in Guangdong. Results Career - related social support scale for nursing undergraduates consists of 22 items. The exploratory factor a-nalysis identified three principal factors,with 62. 03% of the accumulated variance. The scale content validity index was 0. 945. Expect for the dimension of sub-jective support,significant differences were found between different grades in terms of the scores of career - related social support and its related dimensions. It suggested that the scale had a good separating capability. There were positive relationships between total score and scores in all dimensions of career - related so-cial support and career maturity(P < 0. 01). The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0. 911,the split - half reliability was 0. 954,and the test - retest relia-bility was 0. 897. Conclusion The career - related social support scale has good validity and reliability and can be used to measure the career - related social support in nursing undergraduates.
