Study on correlation between professional identity and ego identity among undergraduate nursing students

Abstract:Objective To investigate the current situation of professional identity and ego identity among undergraduate nursing students,and analyze the correlation between them. Methods Totally,404 full - time undergraduate nursing students in Dalian were investigated by the general information questionnaire, professional identity questionaire of nursing student(PIQNS)and extended objective measure of ego identity status Ⅱ(EOM - EIS - 2). Results The under-graduate nursing students professional identity score was (3. 00 ± 0. 91),in a medium level. The score of ego identity was (3. 55 ± 0. 43),in a lower level. Re-sults of hierarchical regression analysis showed the main influencing factors included family monthly income,whether selecting nursing or not,identity achievement and identity foreclosure. Conclusion The professional identity of undergraduate nursing students is positively correlated with ego identity. Nursing administrators should pay full attention to career planning education of nursing students,implement targeted policy to promote ego identity levels,enhance professional identity of nursing students,which can stabilize nursing team.
