Application of early intervention based on strengthening the health education to prevent delirium in patients with mechanical ventilation

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of early intervention based on strengthening the health education to prevent delirium in patients with mechanical ventilation.Methods A total of 184 cases of patients with mechanical ventilation,who were from department of respiratory between April 2015 to February 2016,were selected and randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group with 92 cases in each using number table mehod.The control group received routine nursing of mechanical ventilation,while the experimental group received early intervention based on strengthening the health education including building intervention team and practicing nursing measures.After intervention,the occurrence rate of delirium,duration of mechanical ventilation,duration of hospitalization and patients' satisfaction were compared between two groups.Results Compared with control group,the occurrence rate of delirium in experimental group was significantly decreased and the duration of mechanical ventilation and hospitalization were significantly shorten,which had statistically significant differences (P < 0.05).Patients'satisfaction in the experimental group was higher than the control group (P < 0.05).Conclusion Early intervention based on strengthening the health education can effectively reduce the occurrence of delirium and improve its continued status,and can shorten the duration of hospitalization,which helps to improve patients' satisfaction,and is worth for clinic promotion.
