Effect of Balint group on empathy and job burnout among orthopedics nurses

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the influence of Balint group on empathy and job burnout among orthopedics nurses.Methods A Balint group was established,organized training activities 1 ~ 2 per month.Empathy and job burnout of orthopedics nurses were compared before and after 22 times training.Results After training,the score of the "transpositonal consideration" was significantly higher than before(P < 0.01),the score of empathy ability and each dimension were increased(P > 0.05).About 72.73% nurses were at mild-to-moderate and job burnout,there was no significant difference on job burnout before and after training.Conclusion Orthopedics nurses were vulnerable to job burnout,Balint group training plays a positive role on transpositional consideration skills among nurse-patient communication.
