The correlation of family function and post-stroke fatigue in community stroke patients

Abstract:Objective To explore the status of family function and post-stroke fatigue in community stroke patients,and analyze the correlation between them.Methods Totally,214 stroke patients were investigated by Family Assessment Device(FAD) and Fatigue Severity Scale(FSS).Results The mean score of family function of stroke patients'primary caregivers was (2.14 ± 0.24).The dimensions by descending order were emotional response,communication,problem solving,behavioral control,affective involvement,role function and total function.The mean score of their post-stroke fatigue was (3.98 ± 1.28).Correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between family functioning and post-stroke fatigue (P < 0.05).Conclusion Medical staff should take actions to enhance the family functioning of stroke patients,especially their problem solving and fatigue levels.
