The relationship between elderly hypertensive patients’ resilience and medication adherence

Abstract:Objective To investigate the status and correlation between resilience and medication adherence in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods Totally, 142 eldely patients with hypertension were investigated using the Chinese version of Connor - Davidson mental resilience scale(CD - RISC)and medication ad-herence questionnaire. Results There were 30 patients with good medication adherence,which accounted for 21. 13% ,and 112 patients with poor medication adherence,which accounted for 78. 87% . The total resilience score was(61. 37 ± 11. 91). The resilience score was different in patients with good and poor medi-cation adherence(P ﹤ 0. 05),and medication adherence was positively related with resilience and its three dimensions. Conclusion Patients’resilience can affect medication compliance. Medical staff should pay attention to patients’resilience,so as to provide new thinking way for improving patient medication adherence.
