Status and influencing factors of health education needs among patients undergoing abdominal surgery

Abstract：Objective To investigate the health education needs among patients undergoing abdominal surgery and to analyze the influencing factors,so as to provide the empirical evidence for nurses to satisfy patientsˊhealth education needs. Method A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate 492 pa-tients undergoing abdominal surgery,and their general data was analyzed to learn its effects no health education needs. Results The abdominal surgery patients had relatively high health education needs. Major factors affecting patientsˊhealth education needs were gender,age,level of education,family income and places after postoperative period. Conclusion Many factors may affect patientsˊhealth education needs. It is imperative for nurses to evaluate patientsˊneeds so that to provide individualized health education for each individual patient.
