Abstract:The groundwater in coral reef islands is of great significance for island ecosystem and economic development.Coral reef groundwater is an independent system floating in the sea.It is highly dynamic and fragile. There are two main influence factors to the formation, development, evolution, and water quality characteristic, one is the hydrogeological conditions of coral reef islands, and the other one is rainfall recharge. At the same time,it is highly sensitive to climate, marine factors/events,and human activities. In this study, the current research of the formation and development of coral reef islands groundwater is summarized. And the impacts of physical characteristics, geographical characteristics, climate environment, marine events, and human activities are analyzed respectively from long time scale and short term effects. It is pointed out that the influence of short-term factors led by human activities on groundwater has become a research hotspot in recent years. The main factors to groundwater and the driving mechanisms need to be polished.
