Abstract:Bioelectrochemical technology has promising application in remediation of water ecosystem. After 30 days elec-trochemical oxidation of three different sediments, significantly different change(P<0.05)of Shannon index was observed only in one sediment sample. The relatively abundance of 17 phyla was statistically different between control sediments and electrochemical oxidized sediments. However, only Acidobacteriota,Nitrospirota and Spirochaetota, among the 17 phyla, have abundance larger than 1%.Conversely,the change of abundance of the top 9 bacterial phyla was not significant. The effects of electrochemical oxidation on bacterial connection were also very light.Nevertheless,at the bacterial class level, the change of relative abundance of Dehalococcoidia and sulfate-reducing bacteria such as Thermodesulfovibrionia and Desul-fobulbia,etc.was significant, suggesting the biogeochemical cycle of halogen and sulfur could be altered by electrochemical oxidation. These findings provide more theoretical basis for underlying the potential ecological effects caused by electrochemi-cal oxidation remediation of polluted sediments.
