Abstract:The fluorescence components of heterogeneous dissolved organic matter(DOM)released from cigarette butts were analyzed by fluorescence spectroscopy. The feasibility of fluorescence intensity as heterogeneous DOM concentration characterization index for the adsorption properties study of four activated carbons on different fluorescence components were investigated based on Freundlich and modified Freundlich model. The results indicated that the main fluorescence composi-tions of heterogeneous DOM were classified into fulvic acid-like,dissolved microbial metabolites-like and humic acids-like substances.Fluorescence technology can be used to study the adsorption properties of the heterogeneous organic compounds, and the adsorption process is uneven adsorption. Both models can be used to describe the adsorption properties of heteroge-neous DOM,but the latter is better.Due to the bidirectional selection between adsorbent and adsorbate, with the increase of activated carbon dosage, humic acid-like fluorescence peak disappeared first, followed by fulvic acid-like,and dissolved microbial metabolites-like were removed finally.Four activated carbons adsorption capacity on different fluorescent compo-nents were significantly different, activated carbon AK-703 is easier to adsorb soluble microbial metabolites-like substances and not easy to remove humic acid-like matters, four kinds of activated carbon are not easy to adsorb fulvic acid.
