Abstract:The copper loaded loofah biochar composite(Cu-LBC)which was used to activate persulfate(PS)to degrade tetracycline(TC),were prepared in the laboratory by the method of chemical impregnation and high temperature carboniza-tion,and the experimental study with Cu-LBC showed that when the reaction temperature was at 25 ℃,initial pH being 7,and dosage of PS and Cu-LBC being respectively 0.2 g/L and 0.6 g/L,TC removal rate could reach 87.26%±3.36%within 40 minutes;in addition, the pH adaptability of this catalytic system was excellent, and the influence of coexisting anions on the degradation performance was negligible;the high efficient catalytic degradation ability of the system was owing to the catalyst that was greatly reducing the activation energy of the reaction(Ea=4.51 kJ/mol).The catalyst was thereby applied to the degradation of TC contained in the water samples which were taken from some local stream and lakes, the results also showed its high TC-removing ability.Furthermore, the free-radical quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)analysis revealed that the dominant free radicals in the system were SO4·-and·OH;the examination using FTIR and XRD showed that copper in the biochar composite mainly existed in the form of Cu+,and the functional groups on the surface of Cu-LBC determined its excellent catalytic performance.
