Abstract:This paper dealt with a case study of two metallurgical plants for the investigation of the changes of soil's iron oxide content and the phase transformation process in the contaminated sites on condition of regulation and control of different water contents.Hence the experiment was conducted by way of constant temperature/humidity water incubation to observe the content changes among iron oxides in soil, and the soil micro-morphology and the variation trend of mineral elements were characterized by SEM-EDS.Then the principal component analysis method was adopted to explore the responive changes of iron oxides contained in two heavy-metal contaminated soil samples in the context of regulated and conrolled different water contents.Consequently, the experiment suggested that,in contrast with the control treatment, the content of free iron oxides in both of two different soils presented different decreasing trends after 180 d of water-content regulation/controling,the maximal reduction of free iron oxides in the two kinds of soils were 18.58%and 36.23%,respectively,and the amorphous iron oxides increased considerably, with the biggest increase of 64.36%and 53.35%,respectively.Besides,the result of SEM-EDS analysis showed that the reduction of Fe affected the speciation of heavy metals. In summary, the experimental results could reveal the impacts of the change of iron oxides content with the regulation/controling of water content, and the morphological transform on the environmental behavior of heavy metals in contaminated sites.
