Abstract:The interaction between natural minerals and trace pollution gases is widespread in the atmosphere. The different adsorption modes of pollution gases on the surface of natural minerals and the relationship between different pollution gases will affect the formation of secondary aerosols. In this study, the heterogeneous reactions of SO2 and NH3 on the surface of montmorillonite and illite were investigated by single experiment, and the synergistic effects of SO2 and NH3 on the surface of montmorillonite and illite were studied by simultaneous experiment and stepwise experiment. The results show that both montmorillonite and illite have certain adsorption activities for SO2 and NH3,and the products are mainly SO32-and NH4+.However,due to structural differences, the adsorption and transformation activity of the montmorillonite for SO2 and NH3 is higher than that of illite. However, when SO2 and NH3 exist simultaneously,NH3 promotes the adsorption and conversion of SO2 by increasing the alkalinity of mineral surface.SO2 promotes and stabilizes the adsorption and transformation of NH3 by enhancing or forming new Brønsted acid sites. The difference of mineral surface properties and structures has an important effect on the synergistic effect of SO2 and NH3.
