Abstract:CaO as a kind of catalyst is used in rapid pyrolysis of dried sewage sludge for the purpose of increasing gas production and quality, but the pyrolysis is prone to form the dense structure of dried sewage sludge, which will result in the difficulties of injection of CaO into the sludge. In order to tackle the problem, a mild mechano-chemical pretreatment process was adopted in an experiment by using a planetary ball mill, which was focusing on the influence of the parameters such as size of grinding ball, milling time and the material ratio (mass of catalyst to sludge) on the gas composition distribution and yield during the rapid pyrolysis process of the dried sewage sludge. The optimized pretreatment condition as the experiment revealed that: when the material ratio was adjusted to 1∶1, and small balls (all in 6 mm in diameter) were used in milling the dried sludge for 3 h, gas yield could reach the highest gas production rate of 30.35% with the components of CH4, H2 and CO in the generated gas accounting for 88.42% and the gas calorific value being 152.3 kJ/m3.
