Abstract:Fe/SiO2 catalyst,as an activator of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2),was prepared by a wet impregnation method and used for degrading methylene blue in water, and a laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effects of different operation parameters including initial pH of solution,H2O2 concentraation, reaction time and catalyst dosage on the decolorization efficiency of methylene blue. The study suggested that the catalyst was comparatively efficient in removal of methylene blue, and the above-mentioned parameters affected the removal efficiency following the order as H2O2 concentration > pH > reaction time>catalyst dosage, according to orthogonal test.In addition,to investigate the stability of Fe/SiO2 catalyst,Fe/SiO2 was used to catalyze H2O2 for the degradation of methylene blue for 4 consecutive cycles and the result showed that methylene blue removal efficiency maintained about 97% for each time in terms of decolorization, which indicated the excellent cycling performance of Fe/SiO2.Furthermore,the dyeing wastewater sampled from a dyeing & printing mill was treated using Fe/SiO2 to catalyze hydrogen peroxide with the decolorization rate nearing 100% and the degradation rate of COD reaching 84.3%,and the treated wastewater in terms of COD concentration met the related national wastewater discharge standard(GB 4287-2012).
