Abstract:Carboxymethyl waste paper fibers with different degrees of substitution (CWF-1,CWF-2,CWF-3) were synthesized by using waste paper fiber (WF) as raw material and sodium chloroacetate as etherifying agent and were used to adsorb Cr(Ⅲ).The structure and morphology of absorbent were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR),X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The results indicated that carboxyl group was successful introduced into WF by carboxymethylation, which resulted in a decrease of the crystal degree, and did not change the fibrous morphology. The adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption capacity enhanced with the degree of substitution increased, the effect of pH on adsorption capacity was remarkable. At pH 5,the temperature of 30 ℃,the initial Cr(Ⅲ) mass concentration of 50 mg/L,and the CWF-3 mass concentration of 1 000 mg/L,the adsorption capacity was 47.55 mg/g.The adsorption kinetics was better described by the pseudo-second-order equation, and the adsorption isotherm followed the Freundlich model. The adsorption mechanisms were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and pulp Zeta potential test, and the results indicated that the adsorption mechanisms were based on coordination complexation and electrostatic association. In addition,CWF-3 had good separation and regeneration performances.
