Abstract:Persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals have increasingly become a critical environmental concern.Arthrobacter strains possess a strong environmental adaptibility and stress resistance, and widely distribute in various environments especially in soil and water. Many studies have shown that these strains have a high potential capability for degrading various kinds of environmental organic pollutants and adsorbing heavy metals. Thus, they have been utilized for bio-remediation of contaminated water and soil. Here, the research on the degradation of organic pollutants and the adsorption of heavy metals by Arthrobacter strains in terms of the Arthrobacter strains types, the kinds of pollutants, the degradation pathways, and the influence factors were reviewed. The future research directions including the degradation mechanisms of pollutants, the resource reservation of Arthrobacter, and related technology strategies and their applications were also prospected.
