Abstract:A two-chamber microbial fuel cell was successfully constructed and started up immediately using ramie biodegumming wastewater as inoculums as well as nutritional substance. The treatment effect of ramie bio-degumming wastewater and electricity generation of the microbial fuel cell were investigated. The results showed that,in an operational cycle, the removal efficiency of COD is 55.26%,concentration of sacchaddes was decreased by 31.91%,concentration of soluble protein was decreased by 38.71%,pH was from 6.4 to 6.89,microbial population was decreased by 50%,the analysis result of FTIR indicated that electric power of the microbial fuel cell was derived from organics such as saccharides and protein in ramie bio-degumming wastewater primarily.Obtained maximum voltage and power density of the MFC were 1 096.1 mV and 36.55 mW/m2 (fixed 2 200 Ω),respectively, and the internal resistance was about 470 Ω during steady state.Concentration of COD was decreased along with voltage during an operational cycle.
