Abstract:A study of water conservation function were carried out in five densities (600 plants/hm2,925 plants/hm2,1 200 plants/hm2,1 375 plants/hm2,1 525 plants/hm2) poplar plantation in north mountain of Hebei Province. The results showed that the soil bulk density changed with density stand as 925 plants/bm2>600 plants/hm2>1 200 plants/hm2>1 525 plants/hm2>1 375 plants/hm2;at the same density, the soil bulk density of each density stand showed a gradually increasing trend withthe deepening of soil layer thickness. The total porosity of poplar plantation in different density was 34.51%~50.52%,with theorder as 1 375 plants/hm2>1 525 plants/hm2>1 200 plants/hm2>600 plants/hm2>925 plants/hm2.The maximum water holding capacity of poplar plantation in different density was 457.53~667.33 t/hm2,with the order as 1 375 plants/hm2>1 525 plants/hm2>1 200 plants/hm2>600 plants/bm2>925 plants/bm2.The litter thickness, volume, water holding capacity, and interception amount showed a increasing trend with the increase of stand density, with the order as 1 525 plants/hm2>1 375 plants/hm2>1 200 plants/bm2>925 plants/hm2>600 plants/hm2.But the order of the maximum water holding rate was 1 375 plants/hm2>1 200 plants/hn2>1 525 plants/hm2>925 plants/bm2>600 plants/hm2.From the two aspects of integrated soil and litter, the order of water holding capacity was 1 375 plants/hm2>1 525 plantdhm2>1 200 plants/hm2>600 plants/hm2>925 plants/hm2,the water conservation function of 1 375 plants/hm2 is good, which can provide reliable data support for the planting density of poplar plantation in Fengning County,Chengde City in the future.
