Abstract:MWCNTs decorated with iron oxide were prepared by chemical co-precipitation method and used to remove erythromycin from aqueous solution.MWCNTs decorated with iron were characterized by X-ray diffraction and vibrating-sample magnetometer. The removal effect of erythromycin by MWCNTs decorated with iron oxide and the factors affecting removal effect were studied. The adsorption kinetics, thermodynamics and mechanism were investigated. The results showed that iron oxide were magnetic Fe3O4 and γ-Fe2O3.The removal efficiency increased greatly after magnetic iron oxide was decorated on MWCNTs.The removal rate of erythromycin was 87.23% using 0.5 g/L magnetic MWCNTs at 30 min in initial concentration of erythromycin 20 mg/L.The removal rate of erythromycin increased with the increase of the dosage of adsorbent, decreased with increasing initial concentration of erythromycin, and increased slightly with increasing pH.The adsorption process, following pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherms equation, was endothermic reaction with mainly physical absorption and chemical adsorption complementarily. The magnetic MWCNTs after adsorbing erythromycin were regenerated by microwave for recycle use.
