Abstract:The efficiency and mechanism of two sulfonamide antibiotics removal were studied by rice straw-based biochar pyrolysis at three temperatures (300,450 and 600 ℃),denoted as S300,S450 and S600,respectively.The effective factors such as solution pH and ionic strength were also discussed. The results showed that the adsorption of sulfadimidine (SM2) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) onto three biochars was fitted better by pseudo second-order model. The data of the equilibrium sorption experiment proved to be well in accordance with Langmuir isotherm when compared to the Freundlich isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity of three kinds of biochar increased with increasing pyrolysis temperature. The maximum adsorption capacity of SM2 is better than SMX for each pyrolysis temperature biochar, and the maximum adsorption capacities of SM2 and SMX were 2 857.1 and 1 724.1 mg/kg for S600.Solution pH significantly affected the adsorption ability in the range of 3~11,and the best adsorption pH for SM2 and SMX were 5 and 3 respectively. The adsorption ability of two kinds of antibiotics was slightly decreased with the increase of ionic strength.Infrared spectroscopic analysis showed that hydrogen bonding and π-π conjugate were the main mechanisms of rice straw biochar adsorption of two suifonamide antibiotics.Rice straw biochar is a promising adsorbent for the adsorption of sulfonamide antibiotics.
