Effects of nC60 and Environmental Factors on Growth of Scenedesmus obliquus

Abstract：nC60 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by extended stirring and utilized to examine the biological effects of nC60 and environmental factors on the growth of Scenedesmus obliquus.Environmental factors such as pH,NOM,ionic strength were evaluated.Results showed that nC60 inhibited the growth of Scendesmus obliquus at the initial period,but stimulated the growth of Scendesmus obliquus at the late period during chronic exposure.The environmental factors had an effect on the interaction of nC60 with Scendesmus obliquus.It was observed that the ionic strength and NOM facilitated the growth of Scendesmus obliquus since nC60 aggregated in the presence of ion strength and NOM,and thus reduced the concentration of dispersed nC60.pH didn't show obvious effects.The present study demonstrated that the properties of nC60 like dispersed or aggregated state in aqueous system,was one of main factors to affect its biological toxicity.
