Abstract:A new and fast Rayleigh light scattering method for quantifying zinc (Ⅱ) in landfill leachate after sulfhydryl cotton preconcentraction was developed, the optimum reaction conditions and the chief properties of analytical chemistry were studied. In a weakly acidic Tris-Hydrochloric acid buffer medium, zinc (Ⅱ) can be bound with fast green FCF-hexadecylpyridinium bromide (TPB) to form a ternary association complex, which led to a distinctly enhanced Rayleigh light scattering (RLS) of system and the appearance of a new RLS spectrum. The maximum Rayleigh light scattering peak was located at 367 nm.In this wavelength,The RLS intensity (△IRLs) was directly proportional to the mass concentration of zinc (Ⅱ) in the range of 0.002 to 0.23 mg/L with the detection limit of 0.001 3 mg/L.The method has been applied to the determination of trace zinc(Ⅱ) in landfill leachate with values of recovery and RSD(n=5) found in the ranges of 98.94%~103.9% and 1.5%~2.0% respectively.
