Abstract:For the sake of investigating the influence of salinity on physicochemical properties of substrates and phosphorus removal in constructed infiltration system, four artificial filtrations with ceramsites and coal cinders as the substrates were constructed.Salinities of the influents were 0,0.5%,1%,1.5% respectively.SEM,XRF and surface area analyzer were used to characterize the surface morphology, element composition and specific surface area of the substrates that sampling from the inflations pre and post the operation. The results showed that salinity had a certain influence on the physicochemical properties of substrates. The void volume of cemmsites post the operation was higher than before.A few of spherical particles appeared on the surface of the coal cinders. The specific surface area of the substrates decreased as the increase of the influent salinity.Calcium in ceramsite reduced and the largest reduction appeared when the influent salinity was at 1.5%.The major metallic elements such as calcium, aluminum and ferrum in coal cinder did not show a certain regularity. The phosphorous removal efficiency of the four systems were really high when they operated stably, the effluent quality was better than Grade I A in Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB 18918-2002).
