Abstract:The experiment was to study the intercropping system and its physiological response mechanism by lead pollution.Hyperaccumulator cruciferae (Arabis alpina L.var.parviflora) and low accumulator maize (Zea mays L.) were intercropped using the ceramisite as matrix. The Pb2+ (400 mg/kg) concentrations and two cropping patterns (maize, cruciferae monoculture and maize-cruciferae intercropping) were designed.Plant biomass, antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD,POD,CAT),MDA contents and Pb contents of maize and cruciferae were measured. The results showed that the biomass of leaves by intercropping maize was significantly increased by 24.5% than the monoculture. The biomass of root, stems and leaves by intercropping A.alpina var.parviflora was significantly increased by 16.3%,32.8% and 29.8%,respectively.Compared with those in the monoculture, the malondialdehyde contents of roots and leaves by intercropping maize were significantly decreased by 42.58% and 74.06%.The roots and stems by intercropping A.alpina var.parviflora were significantly decreased by 61.98% and 56.64%.The antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD,POD,CAT) of leaves by intercropping maize was significantly increased by 49.15%,113.98% and 63.98%,and increased by 40.14%,73.96% and 73.72% in intercropping A.alpina var.parviflora.The underground Pb contents of maize was significantly increased by 77.29%,with the translation coefficient was decreased by 47.27%.The aboveground and underground Pb contents of A.alpina var.parviflora were increased by 49.57% and 48.64%.In summary, intercropping system not only promoted Pb contents of the aboveground and underground of A.alpina var.parviflora but also inhibited Pb translation contents from the underground to the aboveground.Intercropping could improve antioxidant enzymatic system in cruciferae and maize roots and leaves, and alleviate Pb toxicity under Pb2+stress.
