Abstract:High surface area mircroporous shell carbon was prepared with walnut shell as raw material and zinc chloride as modifying agent.Effects of modifying agent concentration, impregnation ratio, carbonization temperature and carbonization time on the adsorption capacity of modified shell carbon were studied. The surface microstructure and chemical structure of modified shell carbon were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and specific surface area modem technology. The results indicated that the suitable preparation condition was obtained as modifying agent concentration of 40%,impregnation ratio of 1∶3,carbonization temperature of 500 ℃ and carbonization time of 60 min.The results showed that the removal rate of Cr (Ⅵ) on modified shell carbon, which was obtained under above condition, reaches to 98.9%.The characterization results showed that the modified shell carbon has a large apparent surface,SBET=192.840 m2/g,the average pore diameter of 6.46 nm,and the adsorption power volume of 0.623 cm3/g.The functional groups including O-H,C-O-C,C-O,C-H and N-H exist on the surface of modified shell carbon.
