Abstract:Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) were regarded as the target pollutants in this paper for studying the urban water bodies of four kinds in Beijing with respect to the balance of N and P adsorption/desorption onto sediments, and the adsorption dynamics characteristics,as well as the influence of dissolve organic matter (DOM) in reclaimed water that was returned to the waters on N and P adsorption onto sediments. The study showed that the processes of sorption of N and P in the sediments of four water bodies could be described by the Linear and Freundlich models, with a certain hysteresis effect of desorption;the adsorption of N and P were inhibited by DOM in reclaimed water, with a decrease of adsorption coefficient Kd by 0.04%~56.88%,reaching a significant level (confidence level α=0.05);the non-linear parameter 1/n was thus increased,up to 2.20 times at most, resulting in a lower adsorption stability. It seemed that the conventional adsorption kinetics equation could not describe N and P adsorption adequately, but could be characterized by the ExpAssoc equation.
