Abstract:With the rapid economic development and the increase of urban agglomerations, air pollution in Yangtze River Delta region is becoming a widespread concern. The research uses air pollution data, satellite observation data and meteorological data to compare how different conditons affect air pollution in winter in Nanjing. Results show that wind direction, wind speed and relative humidity all affect the frequency of heavy polluted days in 2013 and 2014.Disregarding southbound cold air, cold fronts, cold high pressure systems, uniform pressure fields and inverted trough low pressure systems can all bring heavy pollution, cold high pressure systems more heavily affect the atmosphere in January of 2013.High altitude atmospheric circulation, surface winds, vertical velocity, height and thickness of thermal inversion layer can all affect pollution level;on the onset of heavy air pollution in winter, the height of mixing layer has negative correlations with mass concentration of PM2.5.
