Optimizing Embedding Conditions of Immobilized Sulfate Reducing Bacteria for Lead Removal
Abstract:In order to study the effect of immobilized sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) on the treatment of heavy metal lead, with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as entrapment agent, boric acid as crosslinking agent, sodium alginate as additives on fixing of sulfate reducing bacteria, and the immobilized beads for treatment of heavy metal lead and the swelling ratio of SRB beads as the main indicator, orthogonal experiment was done to select the best immobilization proportion of the embedding SRB beads.According to the experiment, the optimal conditions of imbedding immobilized SRB were 9% polyvinyl alcohol,3% silicon dioxide,0.2% sodium alginate,1% activated charcoal,35% bacteria,2% CaCl2 and 24 h crosslinking time. The adsorption and swelling ratio of immobilized SRB can reach up to 745.11 mg/g and 33.64%,respectively during the course of treating wastewater containing lead.A large number of pores in the surface and inner of immobilized SRB can be found by scanning electron microscope.
