Abstract:Taking five watersheds in Langfang City—Sanhe,Xiluocun,Beichang,Gengsheng, and Jingezhuang—as the research objects, this paper first applies the principal component analysis(PCA)method to reduce the dimensionality of ten topographic and geomorphologic characteristic indices of the watersheds, including watershed area, channel slope, total river network length, river network density, main channel length, watershed length, form factor, average watershed slope, average elevation difference, and average watershed elevation, and extracts two principal components that can comprehensively reflect the original characteristics. Then,an objective weighting method is used to assign weights to the principal components, quantifying the similarity among watersheds. As a result, two pairs of similar watersheds—Sanhe-Xiluocun and Beichang-Gengsheng—are identified, for which parameter transfer can be carried out.The research results provide a basis for identifying reference watersheds for hydrological forecasting in ungauged regions in the future.
