Abstract:In hydraulic engineering geological surveys, ascertaining overburden thickness and lithologic weathering boundaries is a frequent requirement.Experiments were conducted in two scenarios:one where the overburden was thick with no sudden wave velocity change between overburden and bedrock, and another where the overburden was thin with a sudden wave velocity change. Results showed that when no abrupt interface existed between overburden and bedrock wave velocities,no obvious gradient change appeared in the apparent shear wave velocity interface, making the exact soil-rock interface position difficult to determine.Conversely,in cases with thin overburden, combined with known drilling or acoustic testing results, the weak or strong weathered lithologic interface could be roughly inferred from the micro-motion apparent shear wave velocity section.
