Abstract:Daily peaking operations of hydropower stations create power generation flow pulses downstream that differ significantly from natural states. These rapidly changing intra-day flows can alter species composition, diversity, and abundance in river ecosystems, affecting river health.Focusing on the daily scale and the peaking characteristics of hydropower stations,a comprehensive evaluation index system for the eco-hydrological impact of daily peaking operations was established, based on the statistical characteristics of downstream flow intensity changes and eco-hydrological impact features. This system was applied to analyze the impact of daily peaking flow processes at the Gangkouwan Hydropower Station on the Shuiyang River,a major tributary of the Yangtze River. The findings provide guidance for the environmental impact assessment and ecological scheduling of peaking hydropower stations.
