Abstract:The operation of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir has systematically reconstructed the water-sediment relationship in the lower Yellow River, exerting profound impacts on the ecological security and sustainable development of the basin.By employing the absolute ratio of annual runoff, coefficient of variation, and double mass curve method, the characteristics of water-sediment variations at major hydrological stations along the lower Yellow River from 2001 to 2023 were analyzed. The findings reveal that water-sediment dynamics in the lower reaches are primarily driven by human activities, superimposed with natural factors.Specifically, the interannual fluctuation of runoff and the ratio of flood-season runoff have progressively increased along the river at downstream hydrological stations.Peak sediment transport typically occurs in July, and notable turning points in the water-sediment relationship were observed in 2005 and 2018.
