Abstract：Weir is widely used in river management and usually considered as a water retaining structure.At present,the research of weir mainly focuses on the characteristics of water flow,the change of scour and silting,the design of fishway,etc.The research methods are mainly include model experiments and digital simulations.In recent years,the study of new types of dams has become one of the hot topics in weir research area.This paper systematically reviewed the current research status of new types of dams in China and other countries,combined with field investigations.A new type of granular weir was proposed based on the research mechanism of analogy related scattered stone weirs,which provided a certain reference for the subsequent research on ecological weir and the design of small watershed weir in mountainous areas.
