Causes of Abnormal Piezometer Readings at the Yuecheng Reservoir

Abstract：Monitoring the phreatic line and seepage pressure of an earth-rock dam through piezometers allows for real-time understanding of the internal operating conditions of a reservoir dam.Investigating and analyzing the causes of abnormal piezometer data are crucial for ensuring the safe operation of reservoir projects.In response to the abnormal rise in water levels observed in the seepage piezometer at dam station 2+360 of the Yuecheng Reservoir,the basic conditions of the piezometer were systematically examined by analyzing the surrounding geology,adjacent piezometer data,dam seepage data,and engineering inspection conclusions.Further investigations were conducted using water injection tests,pumping tests,pipeline endoscopy,water sample hydrochemical analysis,and borehole geological exploration to explore and preliminarily analyze the causes of the abnormal piezometer readings.The findings provide bases for subsequent handling of this piezometer and offer reference for addressing similar engineering issues.
