Optimization Analysis of Pipe Material and Diameter Selection for Water Transmission Pipeline in Large-scale Water Diversion Project

Abstract：The selection of pipe material and diameter for long-distance water conveyance pipelines will have a significant impact on the initial construction investment and later operation cost of the whole water diversion project.The basic principles of pipe material selection and the influence of pipe diameter on project cost were analyzed,and the design idea and calculation method based on the minimum cost objective were proposed.Taking the western water transfer project in Anyang City of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project as an example,the applicability of different pipe materials in this project was demonstrated and analyzed.After the pipe material was determined,the economic pipe diameter of the pipeline was calculated by using the present value method,considering the factors such as pipeline and pump station,construction investment and operation cost.It provides a reference for the design of similar projects.
