Abstract:The spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation in the Haihe River Basin is uneven. The spatial interpolation of meteorological station precipitation data is necessitated to calculate precipitation for each grid within the region. However, different interpolation methods yield varying results, making the selection of the most suitable method based on regional characteristics has been a key aspect of hydrological research. In this study, precipitation data from 36 national meteorological stations in the Haihe River Basin for the period 1961 to 2020 were utilized. The Kriging method(Kriging),Inverse Distance Weighting(IDW),Thin Plate Spline(TPS),and Thiessen Polygon method(Thiessen)were employed to spatially interpolate and cross-validate multi-year average, annual, and monthly precipitation at different temporal scales. The optimal precipitation interpolation methods for various temporal scales were identified in the Haihe River Basin. The findings indicated that:①each interpolation method could effectively reflect the spatial variation trends of precipitation in the Haihe River Basin at different temporal scales;②the Thiessen performed best in interpolating annual average precipitation and annual scale precipitation;③for monthly precipitation interpolation, the TPS demonstrated the most stable performance. The relevant research results can identify suitable methods for spatial interpolation of precipitation in the Haihe River Basin, and provide support for hydrological model construction and flood prevention and control technology, which has certain scientific value and practical significance.
