Influencing factors for ventilator alarm fatigue among medical staff in the intensive care unit

Abstract:Objective To explore the influencing factors for ventilator alarm fatigue among medical staff in the intensive care unit(ICU).Methods A total of 100 ICU medical staff in five medical institutions were involved in the use of ventilators and met the inclusion criteria were selected.They were surveyed about ventilator alarm fatigue using a questionnaire survey,and the survey was completed on May 30,2024.The condition of ventilator alarm fatigue was counted.After screening of univariate factors for ventilator alarm fatigue among ICU medical staff,logistic regression was performed to identify influencing factors.Results In this survey,the total score of ventilator alarm fatigue of ICU medical staff was 24.45±3.25 points,showing a severe state of ventilator alarm fatigue.There was a significant difference in the alarm fatigue degree among ICU medical staff with different positions,working years,monthly night shift number,ventilator alarm habit,job satisfaction and humanistic care quality(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that years of work,number of night shifts per month,habit of setting ventilator alarm,job satisfaction and quality of humanistic care were the influencing factors for ventilator alarm fatigue in ICU medical staff.Conclusion The ventilator alarm fatigue behavior of ICU medical staff is affected by many factors,and corresponding measures should be actively formulated and implemented to improve their ventilator alarm fatigue behavior.
