Abstract:The tear of the posterior root of the meniscus causes the loss of circumferential stress in the meniscus, resulting in a decrease in the tibiofemoral contact area and an increase in the tibiofemoral contact pressure. This leads to secondary damage to the articular cartilage caused by meniscus protrusions, thereafter accelerating the progression of knee joint osteonecrosis and osteoarthritis. Therefore,an early diagnosis of posterior root tear of the meniscus is particularly important. In recent years, the importance of preserving meniscus function has once again been concerned.Posterior root tear used to be considered as an irreparable tearing, but it is currently being attempted for repair and has achieved good results. This study aims to review previous relevant literatures and summarize and analyze the etiology, biomechanical changes, clinical diagnosis, comprehensive treatment strategies, and postoperative rehabilitation of posterior meniscus root injury,in order to provide references for clinical decision-making.
