Improvements of the small airway function and inflammatory factor levels in patients with chest tightness variant asthma

Abstract：Objective To explore the therapeutic effect on improving small airway function and inflammatory factors in patients with chest tightness variant asthma.Methods A total of 46 patients with chest tightness variant asthma diagnosed and treated in the outpatient department of our hospital from January 2021 to December 2023 were selected.They were randomly divided into the control group and study group,with 23 cases in each group.Patients in the control group were given oral Montelukast sodium tablet,10 mg t.i.d.before sleeping,and those in the study group were given Zhichuanling oral liquid,10 mL daily,combined with oral Montelukast sodium tablet,10 mg t.i.d.All interventions were given for 2 weeks.Serological indicators,lung function indicators,fractional concentration of exhaled nitric oxide(FeNO),revised-asthma control questionnaire(rACQ)score,and adverse events of the two groups were recorded.Results Post-treatment eosinophil count(EOS),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),macrophage inflammatory protein-1α(MIP-1α),interleukin-4(IL-4),FeNO,and rACQ scores were all significantly lower than pre-treatment in both groups(P<0.05).Small airway function was significantly improved in both groups,including maximum expiratory flow at 50%forced vital capacity(MEF50),maximum expiratory flow at 25%forced vital capacity(MEF25),and maximum mid-expiratory flow curve(MMEF75/25),which were significantly improved in the study group than the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the study group on the 3rd,7th and 14th days after treatment was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05),which was more pronounced within the first 1 week.Conclusion Zhichuanling oral liquid combined with Montelukast sodium effectively treats chest tightness variant asthma,showing obvious improvement in small airway function and inflammatory factor levels.This combination is taken conveniently with a high safety.
